MECHANISM
Unlike general thoughts, scaly scalp is not due to scalp dryness. It is due to the increase of the sebum secretion by the sebaceous gland situated on the scalp and the proliferation of the Malassezia fungus. Several degrees of oily hair with scales exist and require an adapted treatment: oily hair presenting occasional scales with moderate itching; and severe scaly scalp with itching. Other factors such as stress, too frequent washes, hard water, hormonal imbalance…, can also cause scaly scalp. Every type of scaly scalp requires an appropriate treatment to reduce the first causes of scales formation and minimize their reappearance.
